When I manually downloaded the update and opened it to install I received a message that the update was already installed yet my system continues to give me the following error message and to prompt me to restart to complete the install:.

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. I suggest you follow these 12 things. Then go to this link and click ‘Update Now’. Let me know how things go. I have downloaded Troubleshooter twice but it hasn’t been able to fix my problem — see the attached screenshot. I have this exact same problem. Windows has tried and failed 8 times to install this and it’s trying again. It keeps uninstalling it just after it installed it during restart saying that it was unable to do so and is now uninstalling.

Now it’s trying to install it again. I have tried the troubleshooter fix and even though it says everything is fixed, the problem persists. I have tried everything I can find. Hours upon hours. Microsoft needs to be held accountable for some of these things, as some things they do are criminal.

Finally tried these things and it worked, I don’t know if it all together was the solution or just one of them:. Hi It’s very hard to help everyone here on this thread. You all don’t have the same problem. I can give you a list of things to try; but for some, I would suggest the nuclear. That’s a clean install. I’ll give you my best shot and hopefully we’ll Get-er-Done. Hopefully my friends will join us on this thread! Thanks for your reply. I’m glad a reset worked for you.

I agree a good spring cleaning is good. Most PC users here on the forum don’t want to do a reset or a clean install. You can keep all your personal files, programs, and data by backing them up on a external drive. Reinstalling your programs is the biggest job, and if you are a smart PC user, that’s really not that big of a problem either. It will help others. PC users forget about all the bloatware they have accumulated over the years and don’t realize it might interfere with the ‘creator’ update.

In reply to Reza Ameri’s post on May 12, This was of no help. In reply to CliffPeebles’s post on May 13, I am having the same problem it has tried to install 4 times and keeps failing Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version for xbased Systems KB failed. Coming back for update: Fixed! Finally tried these things and it worked, I don’t know if it all together was the solution or just one of them: 1. Disconnected all peripherals 3. Logged in through local user account 4. Resized increased my Reserve and Recovery partitions.

Good luck,. In reply to A. User’s post on May 13, The other day I couldn’t even get passed the black screen with dots rotating. After everything, I went to the “Reset Windows” option and “Keep files”. Yes, that re-installs windows and deletes third party programmes, but at least you are keeping all your personal files and data. Since I did that, the new update installed without a hitch. Sometimes a good old fashioned spring cleaning is just what the doctor ordered.

In reviewing this post with Ed, he told me that the most common cause of those “Update failed” messages is that there are two updates waiting. If one is a servicing stack update, it has to install first, and the machine has to restart before it can install the next update.

Problem solved. A good read on this is Liam Tung’s piece, Windows update problems: Microsoft reveals why recent patches broke some PCs. Even though it talks about some Windows 7 update issues, the underlying principle is the same. Microsoft actually ships Windows 10 with a Windows Update troubleshooting tool. I find the easiest way to reach it is simply type “troubleshoot” in the search box.

If your Windows 10 update failed, the most common causes include:. Before you proceed, consider creating a Windows 10 backup. In a worst-case scenario, you can restore your backup and try again.

To fix your Windows 10 update failure and successfully update your operating system, try each of the following fixes in order. If you successfully update Windows 10 after attempting a fix, then you can safely ignore the rest and go back to using your newly updated computer. The following instructions are primarily intended for Windows 10 installed on physical hardware.

However, you may want to consider using a newer Windows image that already has the latest updates and security patches. Try rerunning Windows Update. In many cases, simply rebooting your computer and rerunning the update will fix your problem.

In that case, you can usually get things working again by rebooting and starting the update process again. If your Windows 10 installation is significantly out of date, you may need to perform the update process multiple times. Unplug your peripherals and reboot.
